About me

I'm John, and I've been a leader and coach for over thirty years. During this time, I've created and collated many useful tools to help my practice, and I'm sharing them with you here. I am a Secondhalfer - someone in the second half of their career and ready to give back. This site is part of my plan, and you can read about my experience as a Secondhalfer facing redundancy here.

Who do I help?

I help and lead professional project managers on a daily basis. You can connect with me on LinkedIn here. I also work privately with accidental project managers who find themselves in a situation where they have landed a personal project that feels too overwhelming to cope with.

Examples could be:

  • Redundancy

  • Dealing with a major medical diagnosis (e.g. Autism, Type 1 diabetes, cancer, etc)**

  • Divorce

  • Changing career  

  • Implementing a Lasting Power of Attorney

  • Starting a business

These are all projects: they have a start, a middle and an end. There's a product at the end; they require a budget, time, plan, and stakeholders to keep informed. That's a project by all measures, and the techniques professionals use are scalable to your needs, too. You just need to step back, add in your personal circumstances and work with someone who is a calming influence. That's me.

What's my approach?​

​

My coaching practice is beautifully straightforward: 1-2-3

​

Typically, our first session is a collaborative effort to set the scene and understand the problem. We discuss the issue's origin and explore potential solutions. You then take the lead in deciding how to proceed, and together, we'll anticipate any potential obstacles. 

​

The second session focuses on progress, challenges, and successes, resulting in any course changes needed.

​

The third session focuses on bringing the solution to a gentle ending so you can get on with your life and work.

​​

The 1-2-3 approach can be used many times for different challenges, but keeping it simple and focused makes success more likely.
